Dundee Liberal Democrats have announced a field of ten candidates to campaign across the city during the upcoming local elections to Dundee City Council.

Leading the field is long-standing West End Councillor Fraser Macpherson who is the Liberal Democrat Group Leader on the City Council. His colleague Cllr Helen Dick from Strathmartine Ward is retiring at the elections, following a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, and her place is taken by Dr Iliyan Stefanov, who has managed Cllr Dick's office over a long period and edits the local "Strathmartine FOCUS" newsletter. Liberal Democrats are contesting all wards in the city and Cllr Macpherson said he was hopeful of gains this year.

CANDIDATES ARE :

Ward 1 Strathmartine Dr Iliyan Stefanov
Iliyan works at the University of Dundee, managing student support in the university residences. He is sitting Cllr Helen Dick's local office manager and has a PhD from the University of Dundee.

Ward 2 Lochee Eildh Conacher
Eildh was born in Aberdeen but came to Dundee to study geopolitics and international relations at the University of Dundee.

Joe Setch
Joe was born in Southend on Sea but has lived in Dundee since 2010, studying European Politics at the University of Dundee. Joe was founder of Dundee Liberal Youth, the Liberal Democrat youth and student organisation.

Ward 3 West End Cllr Fraser Macpherson.
Fraser has represented the West End of the City Council since 2001, and is council LibDem group leader. A former Finance Convener of the City Council, he has also been Education Convener, Planning & Transport Convener and Chair of the regional transport partnership TACTRAN.

Ward 4 Coldside Raymond Lawrie
Raymond is a highly experienced candidate with experience at both parliamentary and council elections. A past Convener of Dundee Liberal Democrats, Raymond's professional career has included working in the transport sector and he has been Chief Executive of a leading charity.

Ward 5 Maryfield Chris Hall
Chris is a technical assistant working in roads maintenance and has previously contested Maryfield Ward at the 2009 by-election in the ward. He lives in the ward and edits the local 'Maryfield FOCUS' newsletter.

Ward 6 North East Iqbal Mohammad
Iqbal, a law student at the University of Dundee, is Dundee born and bred and a former pupil of Morgan Academy. He is student representative on the Dundee Liberal Democrat Executive Committee

Jennifer Rankin
Jennifer was born in Belfast but has lived in Dundee for the past two years and is currently studying geography at the University of Dundee.

Ward 7 East End Allan Petrie
Well-known community campaigner in the East End area, Allan is Convener of Dundee Liberal Democrats. Originally SNP councillor for Pitkerro Ward 1999-2003, Allan left the SNP and joined the Liberal Democrats, concerned at the direction of the SNP.

Ward 8 The Ferry Craig Duncan
Craig is a well-known local campaigner in Broughty Ferry and editor of the Ferry Focus community newsletter. He has wide work experience in the private, public and charitable sectors.
