Commenting on the UK Budget announced today, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott said, "Cutting fuel tax is the right thing to do. Every family, individual and business is being hit by this and at last, the Government have acted. This is real help at this really tough time for Scottish families and the Scottish economy.
"A cut in fuel tax never happened under 13 years of Labour. Their proposal is illegal and would take 6 years to happen.
"It's right to help the lowest paid people. Almost 100,000 Scots won't pay tax at all. 2.2 million low and middle income earners will have their tax bills cut. That helps people who need it most and it's what the Liberal Democrats said we would do.
"I want the new Scottish Government to deliver new Enterprise Zones for Scotland, getting different parts of Scotland moving the economy and creating jobs.
"The new Green Investment Bank, with more money should be based in Scotland. It's to be operating next year, and I will be speaking to the Deputy Prime Minister today to push Scotland's case.
"So a UK government that concentrates on creating jobs and cutting the cost of fuel is doing the right thing for Scotland in dealing with the tough financial times that we all live in."
