NCR job losses must be replaced, says Clive Sneddon
Dundee East Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson Dr Clive Sneddon has tonight (Thursday 11th January) condemned the announcement today of the transfer of manufacturing jobs from Dundee to Hungary.
Dr Sneddon said, "This announcement makes a mockery of assurances that the new NCR plant in Hungary would complement manufacture in Dundee.
"It is vital to move forward now to securing other jobs for Dundee. The Scottish Executive, Scottish Enterprise, the City Council and others must work together over the coming months to identify possible new businesses which need the skills now available.
Dr Sneddon concluded, "In the longer term, developing business ideas from Dundee itself is preferable to bringing in multinationals, but in the short term Dundee must now be considered urgently for government jobs devolved from Edinburgh or London. Dundee Liberal Democrats support all constructive proposals which will grow Dundee's economy at this difficult time."
