NCR job cuts a terrible blow

News today (Thursday 11th January) that NCR has announced 650 job cuts in Dundee has been called a "terrible blow" for the City by City Council Finance Convener Cllr Fraser Macpherson.

Speaking to Radio Tay immediately after the announcement, Cllr Macpherson said, "This dreadful news is a massive blow for the skilled workforce at Dundee NCR, their families and the City as a whole.

"The workforce is rightly angry. They have delivered for NCR but the company is failing to deliver for them. Serious questions must be asked about manufacturing industry moving jobs purely to obtain cheaper labour elsewhere in the world.

"It is vital that the Scottish Executive gives real resource to the City to help in terms of finding people alternative employment and I am pleased that Nicol Stephen MSP, the Enterprise Minister, is to visit the City and the NCR plant very soon. We need to all work together to ensure real action to help all 650 employees find secure alternative employment."
