At its meeting tonight (Tuesday 4th April 2006), local campaigner Michael Charlton was elected as Secretary of Dundee Liberal Democrats.

Michael, who hails originally from County Durham, has made his home in Dundee's West End, where he lives with partner Claire. A final year Economics student at the University of Dundee, Michael is a member of Amnesty International and regularly plays rugby for the University. His other interests include reading classical and contemporary literature and learning German and French.

Local Party Convener Raymond Lawrie said, "I am delighted at the members' choice for new party secretary to succeed Nykoma Hamilton, who has recently moved to Fife. Michael has the ability and enthusiasm to help the growing Dundee LibDem team make further progress across the City."
