McInnes calls on bus companies to pass on fuel savings

16 Jan 2015

North East Liberal Democrat MSP Alison McInnes today urged bus companies to cut their fares in light of falling fuel prices.

Mrs McInnes has written to National Express Dundee, Stagecoach and First, calling on them to pass on the drop in diesel prices to customers through lower fares.

In her letter she points out that bus operators receive a fuel subsidy and that fare-paying passengers and taxpayers will want reassurance that falls in diesel costs will be passed on.

Mrs McInnes said: "While motorists are already seeing the cost of filling up the car come down, many who use buses are still paying what they did a few months ago. It is only right that the savings are passed on to passengers, especially as many people throughout the North East depend on public transport to get about.

"Passengers have suffered the pain of high oil prices, so it is only fair that companies pass on the benefits of lower oil prices."
