Liberal Democrats' great prospects ahead in Dundee!
Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Sunday 2nd July) welcomed news that, if Thursday's by-election result in Bromley and Chislehurst was replicated in Dundee West at the next Westminster General Election, the Liberal Democrats would win the seat.
Cllr Fraser Macpherson, Dundee City Council "I am delighted to see that the Bromley result shows that we can win in Dundee West. In Bromley there was a swing of 14% from the Conservatives to the Liberal Democrats and 16% from the Labour Party to the Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Democrats in Bromley gained an extra 17% - the Conservatives lost 11% and Labour lost 15%."
The swing from Labour to the Lib Dems, if repeated uniformly across the country at a general election, would mean Liberal Democrats gaining 217 seats from Labour, including Margaret Beckett's Derby South and Jack Straw's Blackburn.
Cllr Macpherson pointed out the growth in the Liberal Democrat vote across Dundee since 2001 and said that further advances at next year's Scottish Parliament and Dundee City Council elections looked very likely.
