Liberal Democrat Councillor tackles road safety concerns

10 May 2005

In his monthly update to West End Community Council tonight (Tuesday 10th May 2005), Tay Bridges Ward Liberal Democrat Councillor Fraser Macpherson reported progress relative to concerns raised by Blackness Primary School Parent-Teacher Association about safety at the Perth Road/Blackness Avenue/Shepherd's Loan junction in Dundee's West End.

Fraser advised - "Following the site visit here on 11th March with Blackness Primary School PTA representatives, Education and Planning & Transportation Officials and myself, I have been advised by Planning & Transportation that at the recent Traffic Co-ordination Meeting with Tayside Police, the junction was on the agenda. The Police themselves have not witnessed "red light running" (the problem raised by the PTA and several residents) but the City Council has nonetheless increased timings to allow further time for vehicles to clear the junction. The situation will be monitored and I have advised the PTA of this."

Fraser also advised that he has received further concerns about road safety issues on Riverside Approach in the past few days and was discussing this with the Planning & Transportation Department of Dundee City Council.
