Dundee West Lib Dem candidate, John Barnett, today (Tuesday 6th April), welcomed the long-awaited General Election.

Mr Barnett said, "Gordon Brown could not avoid his appointment with the people any longer. The voters now have their chance to punish Blair and Brown's New Labour government for their serious mismanagement of the country's finances, for the boom and bust economy, for the illegal war in Iraq, and for their failure to give adequate powers to the Scottish Parliament.

This election is wide open. If you don't want to take responsibility, vote SNP. If you want a return to the Thatcherite past, vote Tory. If you want honesty and fairness in government, want Vince Cable as Chancellor to sort out Labour's mess, vote Liberal Democrat. We are ready, willing and able to govern."
