Cllr Allan Livingstone (Perth & Kinross Council) and Cllr Alison McInnes (Aberdeenshire Council) who head up the regional transport partnerships for the Tayside & Central (Tactran) and the North East of Scotland (Nestrans) have both backed plans to improve Dundee's trunk road network.

At a meeting in Perth last week they discussed their finalised regional transport strategies, and the common ground between them. Both strategies highlight the need for tackling the congestion on Dundee's Kingsway.

Speaking after the meeting Cllr Livingstone said "Tactran will investigate all options for improving the A90 corridor through and around Dundee. This might include an outer bypass and a package of associated bus priority, cycle lanes and pedestrian measures on or across the Kingsway.

"I am sure these proposed measures will be welcomed by many and I will be doing what I can to ensure that this project is included in the Strategic Transport Projects Review."

Cllr McInnes said, "Congestion and unreliable journey times on the strategic road network affect the competitiveness of business across Scotland. Nestrans supports the proposals for improving the trunk roads through and around Dundee as part of a wider plan to keep business moving."

Cllr Fraser Macpherson, Dundee Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader and City Council Finance Convener said, "The backing of the chairs of both Tactran and Nestrans for improving the road network around Dundee is really good news. Tackling congestion on the Kingsway is a major priority as the creation of improved pedestrian measures, cycle facilities and bus priority would be a major boon to the City."
