Fighting Dundee's corner on local government funding

Dundee City Council's LibDem Convener of Finance Cllr Fraser Macpherson today (Tuesday 21st March) renewed the City Council administration's pledge to campaign for an improved Revenue Support Grant settlement for Dundee.

Cllr Macpherson said this was essential to properly take account of the challenges faced by Dundee in relation to declining population and deprivation.

Responding to media questions about the cost of Council Tax exemptions for students, Cllr Macpherson pointed out that although the funding of local government is complex and takes account of a whole host of factors, the general principle is that the grant settlement is there to take account of council tax exemptions.

"Dundee is trying to secure an increase in grant settlement as there are particular issues facing the city," said Cllr Macpherson. "The declining population is having an effect on the grant settlement and we will continue to press for a fair settlement for Dundee."
