Dundee Liberal Democrats welcome Sir Menzies Campbell's Speech

22 Sep 2006

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Friday 22nd September) welcomed Sir Menzies Campbell's first major conference speech as Lib Dem leader, in which he highlighted the party's radical new tax package.

Sir Menzies said, "We will reward ambition and aspiration - not penalise effort." He repeatedly attacked the Tories, telling party members that Britain needed "a party of substance, not of spin" and said his objective was "nothing less than to complete the transformation of the LibDems from a party of opposition into a party of government."

Dundee Liberal Democrats said, "Sir Menzies gave one of his strongest performances since becoming leader. The fact he received a five-minute standing ovation shows the level of support Ming has within the party."
