Dundee Liberal Democrats slam Labour over doubling of tax on people on low incomes

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Tuesday 29th April) slammed Labour MPs who last night voted through the doubling of tax on people on low and modest incomes.

Not a single Labour MP opposing it and although the debate should have seen an embarrassing defeat for the Government, Labour MPs withdrew a rebel amendment on the promise of a compensation package from the Government at some later date.

Dundee LibDem Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "It is abundantly clear that Labour cannot be relied on to stand up for local people on low and modest incomes.

"Gordon Brown has the confidence of absolutely nobody."
