Dundee Liberal Democrats say ID cards "a terrible waste of valuable public funds"

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Tuesday 10th October) greeted with scepticism claims by the Labour Government that the UK's national identity card scheme "will cost £5.4bn to set up and run over the next 10 years."

Nationally, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Clegg MP, said, "It is difficult to believe anything the Government says about the cost of ID cards given that in the past they have either tried to hide the costs or spectacularly underestimated them."

Here in Dundee, Liberal Democrat local party secretary Michael Charlton said, "On the doorsteps in Dundee - just like everywhere else in the country - its clear that the public are strongly against this highly expensive Labour Party folly. ID cards are a terrible waste of valuable public funds."
