Dundee Liberal Democrats congratulate Willie Rennie!

10 Feb 2006

Dundee Liberal Democrats have sent their congratulations to Willie Rennie for his sensational victory in the Dunfermline and West Fife by-election.

There was a massive swing from the Labour Party to the Liberal Democrats, just nine months after the General Election. The Liberal Democrats turned a Labour majority of 11,562 into a Lib Dem majority of 1,800.

This victory was the first ever Liberal Democrat gain from the Labour Party in a Scottish by-election.

Dundee LibDem Council Group Leader Cllr Fraser Macpherson said, "We are delighted at Willie's victory and proud of the Dundee contribution to his campaign. The Liberal Democrat victory sends a clear message to Blair's Government about Scotland's unease about the "new Labour project" - but it also sends a message to other parties - the SNP are going down the drain and the Tories are nowhere."
