Dundee Liberal Democrats condemn fly tipping problem
Cllr Helen Dick, Dundee City Council's LibDem Vice Convener of Environmental Services and Sustainability today (1st March 2006) highlighted concerns about the huge extent of fly-tipping in the UK.
Nationally this week, the Liberal Democrats have released new figures, obtained from parliamentary answers, revealing an alarming level of fly tipping across Britain.
Norman Baker MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, said, "Tony Blair is presiding over a throwaway Britain at the expense of the environment.
"There is a need for greater enforcement and effective prosecution of those who are destroying the countryside and the environment."
Cllr Dick said that, here in Dundee, great effort has been made by the City Council to tackle the issues of fly tipping.
"I know, not just from my own ward, but from other colleagues on the City Council, just how concerned many Dundee citizens are about those who irresponsibly fly tip in the City. I am pleased that our Waste Management Department takes this issue seriously and is proactive about the issue," commented Cllr Dick.
