Dundee Liberal Democrats call for action for Scottish schools improvements
Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Thursday 20th March) backed calls for the governments in both Holyrood and Westminster to end the current uncertainty over capital finance projects in Scotland.
Scottish LibDem Enterprise spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP has criticised the SNP for "tinkering" around with the Scottish Futures Trust idea, and President of the Scottish LibDems, Malcolm Bruce MP, has written to the Chancellor, Alistair Darling, to seek answers about who is ultimately responsible for approving the Scottish Futures Trust, which is intended to take over from Public-Private Partnerships funding for capital investment schemes.
Following the publication of the Audit Scotland Report 'Improving the school estate', Liberal Democrat Schools spokesperson Hugh O'Donnell MSP has also urged the Scottish Government to implement the recommendations and publish a clear timescale and funding details.
Here in Dundee, LibDem Councillor for the West End and former City Council Finance Convener, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "The SNP's so-called 'Scottish Futures Trust' has thus far failed to deliver anything - not a single brick; never mind brick for brick. It is vital that we continue Dundee's schools improvements programme and equally vital that the Scottish Government stops dragging its feet."
