Dundee LibDems welcome report showing importance of local Post Offices

6 Dec 2006

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Wednesday 6th December) agreed with a new report that shows local businesses suffer from post office closures.

The study by the New Economics Foundation said that closures have serious "knock-on" effects on other businesses in the area. For every £10 earned in income, a post office generated £16.20 for its local economy, the report said.

Liberal Democrat Small Business Spokesperson, Lorely Burt MP, said, "This report highlights the true value of our post office network. While the Government has presided over thousands of post office closures, our communities, vulnerable groups and businesses have continued to benefit from the valuable service the remaining post offices provide."

Locally, here in Dundee, LibDem spokesperson Murray Dick said, "Dundee Liberal Democrats continue to campaign for our local Post Offices. This report shows that local Post Offices are vital to other local businesses."
