Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Friday 9th February) welcomed news that all Scottish Executive buildings and transport will be carbon neutral by 2011 under plans unveiled today by Scottish LibDem Leader Nicol Stephen MSP.

Following the launch of a new fund to improve energy efficiency in Scotland's colleges and universities, Nicol Stephen revealed a manifesto pledge requiring the Scottish Executive to take the lead in tackling climate change.

Nicol said, "Climate change is the biggest challenge facing our generation. If I am elected Scotland's First Minister I will task the entire public sector to lead the way on tackling climate change by setting the target for government carbon emissions to zero."

Locally, Dundee City Council's Liberal Democrat Vice Convener of Environmental Services and Sustainability, Cllr Helen Dick, said, "This is a really positive pledge by the Scottish Liberal Democrats - we are leading the way in tackling climate change."
