Dundee LibDems welcome Campbell's priorities for a Liberal Britain

8 Jun 2006

Dundee Liberal Democrats have welcomed today's announcement by LibDem Leader Sir Menzies Campbell in which he set out his policy priorities, including plans to protect the environment and make the tax system simpler, fairer and greener.

In particular he has unveiled a radical shift in the LibDem's approach to tax including a 2p cut in the basic rate of income tax. The £20bn cost of the cut would be partially met by a £7-£8bn increase in "green" taxes on cars and flights. The other £12-£13bn would come from the "very wealthy" via capital gains tax changes on second homes and shares.

Dundee LibDem Council Group Leader Cllr Fraser Macpherson said, "Sir Menzies' keynote address highlights the Liberal Democrats' genuine concern for the environment - this is to be warmly welcomed."
