Dundee LibDems welcome Calman appointment

Dundee LibDems today (Friday 28th March) welcomed the appointment of Sir Kenneth Calman, the former chief medical officer of both Scotland and England, to chair the independent review of the Scottish Parliament's devolved powers.

The commission was voted for by MSPs and has the backing of Labour and Conservative parties as well as the Scottish LibDems.

Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader, Nicol Stephen MSP, said, "I believe that this Commission will be the body which decides the constitutional future of Scotland and will create a stronger Scottish Parliament within a stronger UK.

"Now is the time to look at what additional powers would enhance the Parliament's ability to deliver a higher quality of life and stronger economy for the people of Scotland."

Here in Dundee, Liberal Democrat City Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "The Commission is a great stride forward for Scotland's constitutional future, within the UK, where the majority of Scots want us all to remain."
