Dundee LibDems support ''Say NO to Labour's extradition rough justice''

14 Jul 2006

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Friday 14th July) given their strong support to Nick Clegg MP, Shadow Home Secretary who has launched a letter-writing campaign over the unfair extradition arrangements with the US.

Three former employees of Nat West Bank, together with south Londoner Babar Ahmed and up to 20 more British residents, are going through extradition proceedings to the United States under a treaty signed in 2003 that grants fewer rights to British citizens than to Americans.

Dundee Liberal Democrat City Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, ''The case of the 'NatWest 3' has been rightly championed by the Liberal Democrats over the last 10 days.

''It is an affront to natural justice that this Labour Government has signed a lopsided extradition treaty with the USA, which grants fewer rights to British citizens than to Americans.''
