Claire Matthew supports proposals to provide more affordable housing

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Friday 5th January) gave their support to proposals announced by LibDem MSP for Gordon, Nora Radcliffe, for the establishment of Community Land Trusts to help meet the growing demand for affordable housing across the country.

The plans, to be launched at the Scottish Liberal Democrat Conference in February, if approved, will form a key part of the Liberal Democrat manifesto on housing.

Nora Radcliffe MSP said, "The Scottish Liberal Democrats want to help people across Scotland to take their first step on the housing ladder. Developing Community Land Trusts across Scotland would be a major step forward."

Locally here in Dundee, Liberal Democrat spokesperson Claire Matthew said, "The huge growth in house prices has made it very difficult to get on the 'housing ladder' for the first time.

"The situation is particularly acute for young people and for those in areas where average earnings are lower. Scottish Liberal Democrat proposals for Community Land Trusts will allow local communities are to come together to provide a range of affordable housing options."
