Dundee LibDems support positive vision for future of Scotland

8 Jan 2007

Dundee LibDems have today (Monday 8th January) backed calls by Liberal Democrat MSP George Lyon that Scotland should not be diverted by talk of independence and instead should look to California as the kind of economy it wants to model itself on.

Mr Lyon is putting the proposal to the Scottish party for consideration in their 2007 manifesto.

He said, "While the SNP cite the Isle of Man as their ambition for the economic future of Scotland, the Scottish Liberal Democrats would cite California. Californians don't need independence from the USA to deliver economic growth and neither does Scotland."

Dundee Liberal Democrat spokesperson and former SNP councillor Allan Petrie said, "Scottish Liberal Democrats have real ambition for Scotland's future and we will be working hard in the run-up to May's elections to show the people of Scotland our positive policies to build our economy and provide ever better public services."
