Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Sunday 29th July) slammed comments by SNP First Minster Alex Salmond that he was pressing ahead in publishing a white paper proposing a Scottish independence referendum.

Already Scottish LibDem leader Nicol Stephen MSP has condemned the SNP move saying, "Everyone knows the work on this white paper is a waste of civil service time and the public's money."

Locally, here in Dundee, local Liberal Democrats have also condemned the SNP move. LibDem Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "The SNP white paper will be easily voted down in the parliament as the majority of MSPs do not support separation.

"The SNP is wasting time on something that cannot command majority support, time better spent on improving vital public services."
