Allan Petrie slams fake SNP "convert"

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Saturday 17th March) slammed the SNP 'spin machine' for claiming the conversion of Sir George Mathewson, former Royal Bank of Scotland chairman, to their cause when, in fact, he had been a known SNP supporter 30 years ago.

Liberal Democrat MP Malcolm Bruce said, "It is well known that Sir George Mathewson is an SNP supporter.

"Indeed, we each campaigned for our respective parties in Banchory in the 1970s. It is unfortunate that the SNP spin machine is using certain sections of the media to present this as some sort of conversion, in order to score political points."

Locally, here in Dundee, LibDem spokesperson and former Dundee SNP councillor Allan Petrie said, "This is just another example of SNP spin and why so many former SNP supporters no longer support a party of rhetoric and pure spin.

"Everyone knows George Mathewson was an SNP supporter all along."
