Dundee LibDems say mass lobby will help keep trade justice at the top of the Government's agenda

1 Nov 2005

Commenting ahead of tomorrow's Make Poverty History mass lobby for trade justice, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, Dundee City Council Liberal Democrat Group Leader said "I fully support this mass lobby it is an excellent way of keeping trade justice high up on the Government's agenda. The G8 countries must not let the consensus that has been developed through Make Poverty History and Live8 slip away."

Andrew George MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow International Development Secretary, said "Although effective aid programmes and debt relief help to make poverty history, they can create dependency too. Fair trade rules which open markets but protect less developed countries from exploitation will provide the strong foundation needed for sustainable economic development."
