Dundee LibDems concerned about unemployment rise

17 Nov 2006

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Friday 17th November) expressed great concern at the news this week that UK unemployment has reached a seven-year high.

Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable MP said "These figures are seriously worrying and represent a trend of rising unemployment stretching back almost two years.

"It means that growing numbers of families will be unable to sustain their debt obligations and will drift into arrears, personal bankruptcies and home repossessions."

Locally, Dundee LibDem spokesperson Murray Dick said, "Labour's promises on high employment levels seem to be coming unstuck. Firm government action to tackle unemployment is required."
