Dundee LibDems' concern at Labour Government's failure to tackle fraud and error

26 May 2006

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Friday 26th May) expressed concern over new statistics released by the Department for Work and Pensions showing that targets for reducing levels of fraud and error in payments of Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance and Pensions Credit have been missed.

Dundee LibDem local party secretary Michael Charlton said, "The Labour Government's failed record in tackling benefit fraud and error is simply wasting public money."

Liberal Democrat Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, David Laws MP, added, "It is no wonder the DWP has tried to sneak out this new information on the same day as the Pensions White Paper. Once again it has failed to meet its self-appointed targets.

"The Government must act to reduce this waste of public money, if it is to counter the charge that its administration is drowning in a self made tidal wave of tax and benefits bureaucracy."
