Dundee LibDems campaign against throwing taxpayers' money down the nuclear drain

3 Feb 2006

Dundee Liberal Democrats today reinforced the long-standing Liberal Democrat view that no more nuclear power stations - which have cost the taxpayer billions of pounds, are environmentally damaging, high risk and unpopular with the popular - should be built.

Dundee LibDem Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "A huge amount of taxpayers' money has already been committed to the clean up of nuclear waste, and it will take a whole lot more in the future. It is ridiculous that Tony Blair's Labour Government is considering building new nuclear reactors when they still haven't decided how to safely dispose of radioactive waste.

"Liberal Democrats are determined to stop the Government from throwing more huge amounts of taxpayers' money down the nuclear drain and will continue to campaign for a truly sustainable energy policy."
