Dundee LibDems call for action to protect motorists

Dundee LibDems today (Thursday 24th April) backed calls by Scottish LibDem Leader, Nicol Stephen MSP, for action to protect motorists from any "rip-off" reaction to the likely closure of the oil refinery in Grangemouth.

Mr Stephen, who has written to the First Minister about the concerns, said, "The First Minister is adamant there is no fuel crisis. So there should be no excuse for motorists to face more rip-off prices as a reaction to problems at Grangemouth.

"The Government needs to protect fuel supply, but also protect consumers from profit-taking by the companies."

Lib Dem Shadow Scotland Secretary, Michael Moore, added, "Ministers must ensure they are absolutely ready with their contingency plan if there is any sign of the dispute being prolonged. Any hint of profiteering must be tackled with urgency."

Here in Dundee, LibDem City Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "Nicol Stephen and Michael Moore are right to raise motorists' concerns - we need to see government action."
