Dundee LibDems today (Sunday 15th April) gave their backing to the announcement by Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Nicol Stephen MSP of a seven-month programme of government for his party, if the Liberal Democrats are elected.

The programme includes the following :

• June - The party would set out new opportunities for young people, including an hour a day of physical activity with new sports coaches and facilities.

• July - The Liberal Democrats intend to establish new seven-year sentences for knife crime (up from four years now) and introduce a tough regime of community sentences.

• August - The party would publish plans to get 1,000 extra police officers to cut crime and make Scotland's streets safer.

• September - The Liberal Democrats would set Scotland a target of 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2050 and roll out new micro generation for homes and businesses.

• October - The party would start its programme of building 100 local health centres and recruiting 200 extra nurses for faster diagnosis and treatment closer to where people live.

• November - A Liberal Democrat government would introduce a cut in business rates to below those in England, giving, the party claims, a real competitive advantage to Scottish businesses.

• December - The Liberal Democrats would unveil detailed plans to cut class sizes, with 250 new schools and 1,000 extra teachers.

Nicol said, "In 7 months we will have set the foundation for a bright future for Scotland.

"It's a time to get things done in Scotland. And it is the first time the Scottish Liberal Democrats have set out how our bold plans and positive policies will be taken through government month by month by month."

Locally, here in Dundee, Liberal Democrat councillor Helen Dick said, "The Scottish Liberal Democrats have a bold vision for Scotland. We will see great strides forward for the party on 3rd May right across Scotland."
