Dundee LibDems back new powers for the Scottish Parliament

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Tuesday 21st August) gave their backing to comments by Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Nicol Stephen MSP who has has urged the Scottish Secretary to reconsider his view that there is no need to review the Scotland Act and no need for more powers for the Scottish Parliament.

Commenting, Mr Stephen said, "Scottish Liberal Democrats have a long term commitment to improving the devolution settlement. We believe that more powers should be devolved to the Scottish Parliament."

Here in Dundee Liberal Democrat City Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, added, "There is a strong case for extra powers for the Scottish Parliament and a need to build a consensus to this end.

"The SNP government at Holyrood needs to recognise that the majority of Scots favour a strong, powerful Scottish Parliament but within the context of a continuing United Kingdom."
