Dundee LibDems back call for General Election
Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Sunday 1st July) backed calls by LibDem Leader Sir Menzies Campbell for a general election as Gordon Brown 'does not have a mandate' and that the country needs more than just a change in personnel.
Sir Menzies said, "Britain needs a change in direction not just a change at the top."
"Tony Blair promised the British people that he would serve a full third term and that was the basis on which Labour were returned at the last election.
"Gordon Brown does not have a mandate to be Prime Minister and he should seek one by calling for a General Election."
Locally, here in Dundee, Dundee LibDem party secretary Michael Charlton said, "It is quite clear that Gordon Brown does not have his own mandate from the people to govern the country. The matter should be democratically decided by the people of Britain."
