Dundee LibDems highlight loss of Grampian TV name

Dundee Liberal Democrat Councillor Fraser Macpherson today strongly criticised the decision by SMG, owners of Scottish and Grampian TV, to scrap the name of Grampian TV after 45 years of broadcasting in the North East of Scotland, including the Dundee area

Fraser said today (2nd March 2006), "The proposal to rebrand the ITV service across the Grampian and Scottish TV areas as "STV" would be a real backward step for the Grampian TV area and would mean that 'Glasgow-Edinburgh' would dominate the service.

"Grampian TV has served our area well since the 1960s and the "Grampian TV" brand is very much seen as the local service. I think everyone sees STV as the service for the Lothians, South Fife and West Central Scotland, and I am calling on local people and politicians of all parties to campaign against the loss of the local identity of ITV in our part of Scotland," commented Fraser.
