Dundee City Councillors asked to oppose RBS Broughty Ferry branch closure
Dundee City Councillors are to be asked to formally oppose the proposed closure of the Broughty Ferry branch of Royal Bank of Scotland.
Broughty Ferry Councillor Craig Duncan has instructed that the following be placed on the agenda of the next meeting of the council’s City Governance Committee :
‘Royal Bank of Scotland – Broughty Ferry Branch proposed closure
This item has been placed on the agenda by Councillor Craig Duncan who will request that committee agree to object to the proposed closure given its adverse effect on the local community and further requests that the Chief Executive writes to the chief executive of NatWest Group outlining the City Council’s opposition to the closure.’
Councillor Duncan said, “I have been absolutely inundated with RBS Broughty Ferry customers angry about the proposed closure. Whatever the Royal Bank claims, this branch is a busy one.
“The lack of consultation regarding this decision is little short of disgraceful. There is a sizeable elderly population who in particular rely on the branch - many simply don’t do things like online banking. I am very concerned indeed by the Royal Bank’s actions and the effect a closure would have on our local community.”
Councillor Duncan said that he hoped for cross-party support at the council for his campaign to save the bank branch. He added :
“The Royal Bank is the City Council’s own bank and I would hope that, with the support of the whole council, the bank will be forced to listen to one of its bigger customers. The council’s revenue budget for 2023/24 is a whopping £418 million.”
Cllr Duncan added that many residents have asked how they can help his campaign to save the bank branch and he has encouraged customers to contact the bank at www.tiny.cc/RBS to make their views known.
