Dundee City Council Finance Convener welcomes benefits anti-fraud campaign in the City

Dundee City Council's Liberal Democrat Convener of Finance, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, today (Thursday 2nd November) welcomed the City Council's "crackdown on benefit fraudsters."

With the confidential internet forms and free hotline it is hoped to encourage Dundonians to tip-off the council's staff about cheats who rip-off the benefit system and pocket other people's cash. Information can be given anonymously if preferred.

High profile posters, a free 24-hour hotline (0800 085 22 89), online resources and leaflets have been designed to raise awareness of the issue and help beat the fraudsters. "The Spotlight's On Benefit Fraud" is the hard-hitting message featured on the publicity material. The helpline is staffed during office hours, but people can leave confidential information on an answering machine at other times or by using the internet form on the city council's website.

Councillor Macpherson said, "Anyone who defrauds the system is robbing honest citizens of resources and I would appeal to people to support this campaign. The council is determined to rigorously pursue those who put forward fraudulent claims."
