Today (22nd March) is World Day for Water and here in Dundee, LibDem Dundee City Council Vice Convener of Environmental Services and Sustainability, Cllr Helen Dick, is giving it her strong support.

The United Nations General Assembly designated 22nd March of each year as the World Day for Water. The international observance of World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.

Helen said, "Some 1.1 billion people across the world who do not have access to clean, safe water. This is an absolute scandal - every minute of the day, four children die of water-related-diseases. World Day for Water helps highlight the severity of the issue for the huge numbers of people who lack access to clean water and sanitation."
