Clive Sneddon warns about need to tackle carbon emissions

19 Jan 2007

Dundee East Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson Dr Clive Sneddon has today (Friday 19th January) warned that we have little time left in which to bring our carbon emissions under control.

Clive said, "This week's major storms across northern Europe, with at least nine deaths in England and seven in Germany, fits the January weather pattern expected when average temperatures rise world wide.

"ITN news interviewed Princess Anne saying Britons needed to clean up their act, and BBC news trailed the largest climate change experiment ever, which will be the subject of a special programme to be broadcast at 8.00 pm on 24th January on BBC 1 Scotland."

Clive concluded, "We all need to investigate now how we can reduce our personal contribution to CO2 emissions and climate change.

"For my part, as someone who walks to work, I shall be investigating how to improve the insulation of my home and the option of generating power from solar panels.

"The Scottish Liberal Democrats will propose for the next Scottish Parliament that special funds be created to help householders and businesses save energy, and that all councils be prepared to give detailed advice on local availability of energy saving technology."
