Following the incident in McDonald's restaurant in Dundee City Centre yesterday in which an 11 year old girl was shot with a pellet gun, City Councillor for the City Centre & West End, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "I am very concerned to learn of this incident in the City Centre and clearly this raises the issue of the availability of these sort of pellet guns.

"There has been much concern shown by the public about the availability of replica guns and airguns and similar items, which are clearly all too easily available for purchase. The recent 10 000-strong petition calling for a ban on airguns shows the strength of public feeling on this issue.

"According to reports, the pellet-type gun used in this incident is currently classified as a toy, but the incident could have resulted in serious injury. The public is right to expect action to stop this sort of incident happening to a child."
