NHS pressures “dangerous” yet SNP/Greens oppose burnout help

Responding to junior doctor representative Dr Lailah Peel telling Good Morning Scotland that the pressures on the NHS are "dangerous" and that the system is "totally broken", Scottish Liberal Democrat leader and health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:

"The Health Secretary is at pains to blame this on the pandemic but it's fooling nobody. Professor Paul Gray, the NHS Chief Executive for six years under Nicola Sturgeon, said this crisis would have happened with or without covid. It is the result of years of botched workforce planning.

"The NHS is overwhelmed and people are dying as a consequence. The SNP/Green Government was wrong to vote down my call for a Burnout Prevention Strategy to protect staff and it's wrong to oppose an urgent inquiry into the avoidable deaths linked to the emergency care crisis.

"That's what staff, patients and families deserve - not a fresh push to break up the UK."
