Responding to Public Health Scotland statistics showing the 18-week mental health waiting time target is being missed for almost 30% of children, with 1,615 children and 4,404 adults waiting more than a year for treatment, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader and health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:

"It is outrageous that the 18-week waiting time target has never been met by this Government. Thousands of children and adults are currently waiting over a year for the help they desperately need. I've challenged the First Minister about this countless times but it's still happening.

"Scottish Liberal Democrats led the Parliament in declaring a mental health crisis, against the wishes of the government, and secured £120 million more for mental health last year. But that must only be the start because children and young people need new hope.

Scottish Liberal Democrats want to see a detailed timeline and evidence of how the government will clear waiting lists, backed up with fresh funds for mental health services and more local and accessible services and practitioners."
