Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has today used a visit to a bakery in Leven to challenge the SNP's half-baked plans for an independence referendum in 2020.

Mr Rennie said:

"Don't be fooled by Nicola Sturgeon. Every vote you give her will be interpreted as a vote for another independence referendum first and foremost.

"We know that the SNP put more money into the Shetland by-election than they did the EU election. They are trying to hoodwink Remainers in order to get to the prize they really want.

"This week economic experts re-confirmed that independence would mean even worse cuts than the Tories. The SNP's plans are half-baked and negligent.

"By backing the Liberal Democrats voters can stop the SNP's Christmas Eve referendum dash and get back to focusing on the issues that really matter like health and education."
