Scottish Labour has formally caved on independence

Responding to Scottish Labour's statement in its manifesto that it could allow an independence referendum in the later years of a Labour government, Scottish Liberal Democrat Campaign Chair Alex Cole-Hamilton said:

"Scottish Labour has formally caved on independence.

"They've chopped and changed their position on the issue for months but now voters can read in black and white that they won't stand in Nicola Sturgeon's way on a second independence referendum, even though they know it would be devastating for Scotland.

"It's no wonder voters are abandoning Labour in their droves. Their word means nothing. Their principles have been abandoned and they're now just collateral in Jeremy Corbyn's dodgy deal with the SNP.

"The Liberal Democrats are the only party standing up for Scotland's place in the UK and the UK's place in the EU."
