Responding to the Scottish Government's announcement that the reinstatement of 24/7 paediatric service at St John's Hospital will be delayed once again, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

"This is yet another deeply disappointing delay to the reinstatement of 24/7 services paediatric services at St John's.

"I warned that the margins looked very tight but the Health Secretary assured us all that services would be fully opened by October. Now, with less than 4 days to go, here we are again.

"The Scottish Government needs to get to grips with staffing problems. It is a persistent problem across the NHS, with nursing vacancies at their highest since records began in 2007. Despite this, the Scottish Government still hasn't produced the integrated workforce plan that was due last year. Scottish Liberal Democrats want immediate answers from the Health Secretary."
