Cole-Hamilton: Delayed discharges worsen again

Responding to the news that delayed discharges caused by health and social care problems are at their highest level since last October, with 1,141 people delayed at the June census, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:

"The health and social care system is failing both patients and staff. Every day there are more than 1,000 people stuck in hospital unnecessarily. Some are there for hundreds of days. Medical staff have declared them well enough to leave but the care they need in the community simply isn't there.

"Staff are working tirelessly but there just aren't enough of them to go around. They need more support from the SNP Government, given it promised to eradicate delayed discharges years ago."
