Commenting on new figures from HMRC and the Scottish Fiscal Commission showing that the Scottish Government face a budget blackhole of more than £200m as a result of lower than expected tax revenues, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:

"Under the SNP the economy has bounced a long the bottom. Headline-grabbing economic initiatives have promised much but delivered little real change.

"Now the SNP are facing a vast budget blackhole, which will have to be fixed by either cutting spending, raising taxes or borrowing more. None of these things are what the people of Scotland were promised.

"Scottish Liberal Democrats are clear that to boost the Scottish economy what we need is investment in education and mental health to allow everyone to play their part and achieve their potential."
