Responding to the news that 500 operations were cancelled in May for capacity or non-clinical reasons, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:

"500 patients have had their operations cancelled through no fault of their own. Cancellations waste people's time, mess up their life plans and can cause serious mental distress.

"The SNP have a responsibility to act. Every corner of the NHS is under pressure because of insufficient workforce planning and a lack of resources. Patients shouldn't be paying the price for the government's poor planning."
