Speaking after the Scottish Parliament backed a motion criticising the SNP's poor handling of the NHS and highlighting challenges with the recruitment and retention of GPs, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

"On the same day the First Minister has committed her government to dedicate years of debate to independence, the parliament has come together to condemn her government's treatment of GPs.

"Years of systematic disinvestment on the SNP's watch and poor workforce planning have left GP surgeries struggling without the skilled people they need.

"Parliament has spoken, the Health Secretary must make swift moves to address the GP crisis and reduce pressure on hard-working health professionals."
