Responding to new ISD statistics which reveal the number of patients stuck in hospital on delayed discharge, due to health and social care problems, was 8% higher in February than at the same time last year, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:

"Well over 1,000 are stuck in hospital on any given day when they are well enough to go home because there isn't enough care available in the community. That's a disgrace.

"Nobody wants to have to stick around hospital longer than they need to. Patients shouldn't be paying the price for poor government planning and miserly funding.

"Our social care system doesn't have the resources or capacity it needs to meet demand. That's something the government can and must fix."
